Bondi Announces Probe into President's Opponents and Epstein Links
This past Friday, the Attorney General appointed Jay Clayton to oversee an inquiry into opponents of Donald Trump and their relationships with Jeffrey Epstein. This move came shortly after Trump instructed her to initiate the investigation.
In a statement, the Attorney General highlighted Jay Clayton as “one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country”. The official stated, “This case will be addressed with speed and honesty to ensure public transparency.”
This action appears to contradict a July memo from justice department officials which indicated that the Epstein files did not warrant further inquiries. As per the memo, authorities “did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties”
Trump Calls for Scrutiny of Democrats in Epstein Case
This news coincides with increasing pressure from the president on lawmakers to block the public disclosure of Epstein-related documents ahead of an upcoming House vote in the coming days. Several lawmakers are anticipated to support the disclosure.
Recently released communications from Epstein have highlighted the president’s past involvement with the sex trafficker, revealing information that he knew more about Epstein’s conduct than he has previously let on.
That same day, Trump declared he would ask the DOJ to investigate Epstein’s ties with Democrats, including Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman. Interestingly, he also described the “Epstein situation” as a “scam”.
