Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially fatal collision during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two safety personnel ran across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event occurred on the third rotation when track officials were seen on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an premature pit stop to swap his compromised front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his team engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two dudes running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Clearly there's been a miscommunication at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track track officials can be allowed to just sprint across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is thoroughly reviewing the situation

"Following a turn one incident, the race directors was notified that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the governing body

"On lap three, marshals were informed and put on alert to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch personnel were canceled and a caution signal was shown in that area"

"The examination is ongoing what happened after that point"
